Painting food and drink has been one of my favorite projects. Everyone can relate to it, even in abstraction. And, being a Kentucky girl, glasses of bourbon had to make an appearance. I usually paint these in smaller formats, though I think the desserts, in particular, would look great on a larger scale.

I confess. I have a heck of a sweet tooth. I love cake. White cake with white icing. I guess that’s a throwback to my youth and those amazing birthday cakes with the icing flowers and piping all around. I’ve got some images of birthday cakes and cupcakes that I want to paint so stay tuned for those. Iced donuts are great fun to paint. My niece’s son was the inspiration for the pink iced donuts in this series. My dad loved peach ice cream, so there will be a bowl of that in the series eventually.

Well, and Dad loved his bourbon too. The colors that pop out in a backlit glass of bourbon are kind of surprising. Ice cubes add another dimension that is fun to capture. The glassware itself, for other cocktails as well, makes for some interesting abstraction.
